The team was founded in Harlem as the Harlem Black Bombers in 1931 by financier James "Soldier Boy" Semler and dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Our much-imitated (but never replicated) rare Black Yankees cap was worn only one season, the team opting for regular Yankees caps the rest of the time.
